I strongly believe that there are at least two messages and lessons in the execution of Alex Pretti, who seems very much to have been a good, kind person. The first lesson is that the Border Patrol and ICE must be shut down and every employee fired. I will leave what replaces those two rogue organizations to another time to discuss.
Given the law, people are justifiably defending Alex Pretti's right to have had his gun with him. However, this incident is a perfect example of how foolish our gun laws are and it should be tragically obvious that the possession of a gun provided no benefit to Alex and may be why he was murdered. He never touched his gun. It is very likely that had he pulled the gun to defend himself or someone else, he would still have been killed, because a half dozen agents would have shot him. They may have shot others, too. Had he wounded or killed an agent, that would have been Trump's excuse to use the Insurrection Act to militarize Minnesota and escalate the oppression and violence*. The agents who shot him and Renee Good should be convicted of murder and sent to prison for decades. Trump, Noem, Bovino, and probably others should be liable for aiding and abetting the murderers. We know that won't happen.
Would Pretti still be alive if he hadn't taken his gun with him? Maybe. Maybe not. The agents are lawless thugs and none of Pretti's actions were wrong in any way. He was executed. Tragically, the LIARS are using his gun as an excuse to kill him, which is utter nonsense, but it is all the cover these monsters think they need.
As a "law enforcement" event this was a 100% unjustified murder. As a gun issue, I strongly believe that is demonstrates how utterly dangerous our gun laws are and how foolish it is to believe that having a gun with you at all times will serve to protect you. I don't know why Alex Pretti thought it was a good idea to be armed at a protest against violent thugs who exercise no restraint, but we have now seen the results of that idea. But the tragic fact is that if anything could have saved his life, it would have been that he was not armed.

They continue to elect people who support widespread gun possession and who nominate and confirm judges and justices who, as Antonin Scalia did, invent a personal right to own and carry guns in public. The wording of the Second Amendment and the context in which it was enacted can not be supported in the 21st century. We don't need militias and the more guns there are, the more gun violence that is, and the more innocent people die. I am less concerned with people owning guns within their own homes than I am with open and concealed carry permits. I don't think the evidence supports the wisdom of having a gun in one's home, but that is quite different from carrying one around in public.
I know Mike believes he needs one because of potential and real threats by mindless clowns like Loomer and others on the right. I suspect that the odds are that the likelihood is that if anything ever happens the outcome will not be what Mike wants it to be. If some crazy wants to kill Mike, shooting him from behind seems like the best tactic. If Mike is able to pull his gun, depending on where he is, the risk of others, who are not involved, being killed or injured is probably quite high. If the idea it is a deterrent, then, again, just shoot him from behind and his possession of a gun is pointless.
One final thing. After Alex Pretti was executed, I went on GoFundMe and donated. I wrote comments pointing out the existence of the Pretti's GoFundMe account and the amount was, the last I checked, his total was approaching $700,000. Renee Good's is about $1.5 million. I encourage everyone to donate something, no matter the amount, to both of those funds. They show support and care for the murdered individuals and stand as a rebuke to Trump and fascist Reich.
