It was a good discussion, and I'm glad you pushed back on some of Cenk's nonsense.
Oppo research-- Bernie did on Hillary. That whole thing about her speaking at a CEO meeting, and being on corporate boards (which shouldn't have mattered one damn bit)
Establishment candidates - Hillary won the popular vote. The f*ing Dem primary voters chose Biden and IT WAS NOT CLOSE b/w him and Bernie in the primary. Harris had 107 days to run, with an economy that no one was happy with. Jeez, Cenk, do better, please.
Quit calling everyone you disagree with a "corporate" candidate. That is such utter nonsense. Just because not everyone is a freakin' socialist/communist like Cenk doesn't mean they are "corporate".
Yes-- the "progressives" do the exact same thing to promote their people. They gloss over all of the nonsense to make them attractive to whatever they think the "populists" want.
Cenk, you f*ing realize that RFK Jr is head of HHS because of "populism".
Cenk, "corporate" Dems passed the ACA, then expanded it, passed the Lily Ledbetter Act, the Infrastructure Act, the Chips Act, reduced child poverty by 50% with the child tax credit extension, and gave the f*ing people $1200 cash money. And if you say, well it isn't universal health care, you're just letting perfect be the enemy of good. The root of "progressive" is "progress" not "socialist utopia".
I have to disagree with one of your points. The biden economy was doing fine, especially considering it was not quite post-pandemic. The Economist actually did an article on Biden’s economy— I think they used the term miracle, but I don’t quite remember— because it was doing very well. Mr. Biden had to spend a great deal of his time and energy during his term fixing the mess that the Republicans left us in the last time.
I agree with you 100%. That's why I used "no one was happy with" versus "bad" on the Biden economy :-). Inflation took its toll-- both real and psychological on folks. They were royally pissed about it, regardless of the actual metrics.
I still have rage toward every "progressive" who told me in 2016 that "but the Supreme Court" wasn't a strong enough argument to "make" them vote for a neoliberal Wall Street shill like Hillary Clinton. Happy now, "progressives"?
ANYONE and I mean ANYONE who failed to vote for Hillary in 2016 is PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE for both of Donald Trump’s terms. They should wear sack-cloths and cover themselves in ashes until the day they die. Between now until then they must vote in every election from dog catcher to president and ONLY for the DEMOCRATS!
Donald Trump did NOT win because voters wanted an outsider; he won because he appealed to the 3 Circles. (1) The circle of venality. (2) The circle of animus (hatred of some identifiable group), (3) The circle of willful ignorance/stupidity+religion. It's that simple.
Cenk Uygur is the most extreme and counterproductive horseshoe out there. He tried to saddle my congressional district with the self-aggrandizing Nina Turncoat. I told my friend who owns a local music club where he spoke that she needed to fumigate it.
I'm a ME voter and wanted to love GF, went to one of his local events this w/e and was like, he needs to maybe run for mayor somewhere cause he's really not qualified to hold any higher office (yet?!) … he does self identifies as on organizer, and I believe him… meanwhile, he misspoke more than a couple times on basic Am. history, threw a few unprovoked ad hominems after saying he “gets it”, so what am now wondering what he might get caught saying on a hot mic … anyway, we really just need to be electing all the actual prosecutors we can find anymore, and not social media candidates who are effective at saying what we all collectively want to hear, but won't meet expectations once elected… another yr of campaign rhetoric is not going enable anyone to hit the ground running in DC in 2026, prior experience in elected office and/or federal court will though…
Thank you for the lively conversation. Cenk Uygar seems to be off base with his opposition to anyone who is connected to an experienced politician. I agree the johnny-come-lately candidates can be trouble because they have little history. Electing a total novice to the Senate is unwise and to the House is risky but only 2 years.
Mike, you are correct that track records exist for everyone even if not a political record. Their life story is telling.
This conversation between Cenk and Mike is the first one I've listened to completely. As a scientist having some familiarity with sociobiology, I have to challenge the utility of tying policy development to an ideology, as both speakers seem to do. Political ideologies are essentially religions based on ideals of a perfect society. If you stray from orthodoxy, you are a heretic, and must be punished. I get the observation that "corporate" politicians have sold out their constituents. From sociobiology we can obtain reasonable ideas of what humans actually need, to develop the will to maintain a civilized republic. The candidates worth our vote should be those who recognize these needs, and commit to work for fulfilling them, no matter who their donors are. Convincing voters requires stating the needs, and how the candidate intends to fulfill them. Give me a list of candidates whose focus is specific goals, and the means to achieve them, and I'll consider supporting them.
Got as far as the Claire Mckaskil criticism & remembered exactly why I only watch Jayar & John from tyt. Cenk's never humble, highly opinionated, main character syndrome on full display. Shame what self importance & ego can do to someone who, if he stepped down from his "progressive" horse, perhaps would see the fault in his stars...
Why don't you guys try to find some Democrats for Kentucky. We elected a Democrat governor twice. What can we do to get more in the state house and in Congress. Schumer needs to retire.
McGrath is running for the seat McChinless is retiring from. She’s got a chance to win an open seat, Joel Willett is an Army vet & CIA Vet plus a local business leader. Both will be a huge step up over McChinless
I think under the circumstances, Biden had a strong economy, but did a terrible job with messaging about it. He couldn't articulate his strengths, identify weaknesses and discuss what he hoped to do. Too late now.
I worked government job for 40 yrs as nurse at VA. Could have made more but I wanted to care for veterans. When people talk bad about government workers I want to scream!!!!
Yeah, I think Biden got bad rap. We were doing better than any other country post covid. And considering we were coming out of Jan 6 crazy people , I don’t know how he could have done any better. He should never run for reelection, and I blame his wife for that. But, the thing that threw me for a loop is how The Monster got so many young people to vote for him and so many decent Christians. I had no idea people were so easily brainwashed!

I loved that you pushed back so hard, Mike.

Great conversation. I agree with you on Buttigieg. He may be somewhat robotic, but he has a great heart and mind, and I think he can win.

Cenk is wrong about McCaskill. She did run on raising the minimum wage and the ballot initiate. https://labortribune.com/mccaskill-100-percent-in-favor-of-raising-minimum-wage-hawley-not-so-much/
Thank you! Cenk, as usual, is not bothered by facts.
I'm not going to bother with this one for the sole reason that I just don't care what Cenk has to say about any topic.

Former JAG lawyer and ordained minister, Pamela Stevenson is running, too. She's a real brain and maybe the most qualified.

Trump is utterly disgusting and obviously demented. God help us.
Biden was old but he actually gave a shit about the American people. Can't say the same thing about obviously demented Trump.
