Ostensibly…..his ‘rationale’ was that he wanted to avoid having federal funds to Colorado cut off. But this is a weak argument at best, and nothing but pure capitulation to a terroristic bully in the White House. People in leadership positions must stand up to Trump, not cave.

If universities and news outlets and company CEOs and state governors had stood up to him from the beginning, he might have stopped the mafia boss act (although he might not have). The worst aspect of this is that the state's court was about to reduce Peters's sentence on the grounds that it violated her 1st Amendment rights because the judge who sentenced her said or implied that he'd given her more time because she'd refused to recant her belief that the 2020 election was stolen. Polis didn't have to do anything.

If Democrats running for Congress in Colorado make clear that they disagree with Polis's commutation of Peters's sentence, and that, if they'd been in his place, they would have left the question to the court that already was considering it, they probably can separate themselves from him in voters' minds -- just as, had Kamala Harris distanced herself from Biden's unquestioning support for Israel despite the Gaza genocide and said she'd put conditions on further shipments of offensive weapons to Israel, she might have picked up enough votes from the many people who rejected her over Gaza to tip the electoral college her way. (After all, she lost the popular vote by only 1.5%.)
The patriarchy harms everyone — that's the through-line here. The same system that kept women from having their own bank accounts until the 70s (and my girlfriend still needed her father to sign her power account in the 90s) is the same system that never built any infrastructure for men to actually talk to each other. We don't have safe spaces for men in part because men have made spaces unsafe — and now they're living with the reaction to that, on top of the rigidity of what 'being a man' is supposed to mean.
Women don't need a man to exist in the world anymore — and that's disorienting if your only success marker was providing. Men are being asked to grow, and growth is uncomfortable. Right now they can either lean into that discomfort and become better men, or tune into whatever channel tells them it's someone else's fault. And a lot of people in charge are actively encouraging the second option, because in their narrative accountability is only for poor brown people.
There's still a real body of water between the genders — women are going to jail for miscarriages and earning 80 cents on the dollar. But that's not a separate conversation from the masculinity crisis. It's the same conversation.

Your mention of Trump's effort to avoid stepping down as president by inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection reminded me: I suspect the reason Trump insists his fortress ballroom must be completed by September, 2028 is that he intends not to leave office when his term ends. He'll retreat to the bunker beneath the ballroom sometime between the 2028 election and the inauguration of the newly-elected president. He probably intends to have his supporters kidnap or assassinate the president-elect and deploy ICE across the country, while snipers and drones use the flat roof of the ballroom to fight off efforts by police and/or the military to remove him. That bunker, which will be six stories underground, is designed to take a direct hit. I cannot imagine it will be finished in time for Trump to use it to remain in power, but I cannot help thinking this is what the rush is about.
The argument for gutting the VRA is that we live in a post-racist society. I'd like to introduce the SEC. We have a billion dollar industry built on the labor of predominantly Black athletes, owned and administered almost entirely by white institutions, in states that are right now actively engineering Black voters out of political representation. The draft is a mechanism for acquiring and trading the rights to Black bodies for profit. If that sounds like a harsh way to put it, I'd ask what part of that description is inaccurate. Post-racist societies don't do that. And if you're a Black athlete watching Tennessee and Alabama and Louisiana dismantle the Voting Rights Act while your labor funds their stadiums, a boycott isn't a lame idea — it's the only language that system actually speaks.
Hope the racial & ethnic minorities kick southern Caucasian controlled states and universities to the curb. Historical Black Colleges are hopefully where they will go and invest.

We are less than a THIRD of representation in political positions and only 1/5 of all STEM jobs. Our lack of equality STARTS in grade school. One of our main issues is being mansplained when we have expertise on an area. Men DO need to learn to shut up and listen.
I am almost 80, a single mom to a 13-year-old special needs son. He has had almost all male teachers in his special education classes. Thankfully. I can't tell the difference between his special needs and his teenage boyishness. It's very hard to get him to listen to me. He is addicted to electronics. I am very grateful when older men tell me when he is just going through normal teenage stuff. Thank you for addressing these issues.
Jared Polis argues that Tina Peter's shouldn't be penalized for her beliefs. But that's not what she was convicted for. She was convicted for her actions. He knows better but still chooses to tout the MAGA talking point.
Why didn’t the Colorado governor first insist that Trump:
1) pardon judge Hannah Dugan,
2) Drop the stupid charges against Lamonica McIver, and
3) send Ghislaine Maxwell back to the maximum security prison she belongs …

I often, as a male teacher, called on boys more often simply to get them more engaged; the girls, it seems, didn't often need much coaxing.
