Democrats, Trump, and the Midterm Reality Check

Aired 2.16.26

Hey folks,

I joined Newsmax last night to break down what these election results actually mean — and whether this was just a good night for Democrats, or something deeper shifting in the electorate.

In Virginia and New Jersey, Democrats didn’t just win — they overperformed. That’s not spin. That’s math. And it tells us something real about where the country is right now.

Republicans want to frame everything as a fight against “communism” or whatever the villain of the week is. But voters aren’t obsessing over labels — they’re obsessing over their grocery bills. The cost of living is still too high. The job market feels shaky. And when you run on lowering prices “on day one” and that doesn’t happen, people notice.

There’s also a bigger structural question here: can Trump turn out his coalition when he’s not on the ballot? History says that’s hard. His voters show up for him. Whether they show up for other Republicans is another story.

For Democrats, the path forward isn’t about picking between different wings of the party. It’s about running strong candidates who are laser-focused on affordability and meeting voters where they are. Coalition politics isn’t a bug — it’s the whole game.

We’ve got a long road ahead. But if we stay grounded in real economic solutions and stop chasing cable news narratives, we’ll be in a strong position.
