I am a middle-aged white woman with an advanced degree and progressive views. I am deeply angry with the Democratic Party and have been for a long time. In my view they are complicit in the erosion of American democracy and the rule of law. While I continue to support individual Democratic candidates who are committed to addressing the issues facing working Americans, I will no longer contribute my time, energy, and money to a party who consistently insists on the status quo and quieting dissent in the face of the challenges we face.

I am begging the DNC and Democrats in both houses of Congress to rethink who is best suited to lead and communicate. And for the love of God, if you ever get the chance, make it illegal for members of Congress and their families to trade stocks while in office.

You complain which is the same as bashing. Ask your self as (my favorite uncle says The Three Gates are) are you writing about things that are :

Is it true?

Is it necessary?

Is it kind?

If you cant meet any one of those standards maybe you need to stop buying into what mainstream media says and start looking for smaller democratic / progressive influencers.

I'm a 70 year old lifelong Democrat, since I turned 18 and registered to vote. My first President was Jimmy Carter, and I've voted for the Democrat in every election since. None of them were perfect people, but I agreed with most of what they stood for, so they got my vote.

I celebrated when Bill Clinton won, because he was the first POTUS of my generation. I celebrated when Barack Obama won, because I liked his vision. I celebrated when Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris were nominated, because I want to see a woman President in my lifetime.

The Democratic party is not perfect, and there is work to do. It's time for the next generation to step up and lead the party. The elder statesmen and women (Schumer, Pelosi, etc.) have served well, but it's time to step down and hand over the gavel to Gen X, Y, and Z.

I'm in favor of a maximum age for office holders, as well as the minimums in the Constitution. Although some elders can still be effective, many are out of touch with the younger generations, and/or stuck in their own outdated ideas.

Let them become 'elder statesmen' in the classic sense, where people come to them for advice and their power is purely based on the value of the wisdom they dispense. I appreciate that Pelosi followed that example. Her influence is now simply that she is known and respected, and her one vote in the House.

I agree. The Democratic party is not bad, just needs to focus and support new young candidates with progressive ideas. Those who are beholden to 'big money' need to be replaced if they are legislating for 'big money', and not the American populace. Those who have been in politics and are trying to do the right thing, Bernie Sanders for one, should be supported and lend their expertise to newcomers.

The republicans are not a party anymore...they are a gang working for a thug. They all need to go.

Money is not evil, but money can be used as a tool to corrupt. Progressive ideas are good, but what we need is a well thought out PLAN. Project 25 is evil, but it was effective in achieving it's goals. We need something that is equally effective, but to HELP this nation, not burn it down.

This list is not as 'sexy' but the nuts and bolts are important, and their degradation over time has eroded our freedoms.

Again, this is a starter list, to give people tangible, doable promises when we gain the power to deliver.

Solution #1) for Freedom and Equality: Pass law forcing all states to NOT gerrymander their districts for state or federal elections.

Solution #2) for Freedom and Equality: Pass law mandating ALL election laws in ALL states must be reviewed and approved by a special bipartisan commission, with a 2/3 majority. Including existing laws as they get to them. Must be funded with sufficient staff for first several years to play 'catch up'.

Solution #3) for Freedom and Equality: Pass law to block people from office (with specific enforcement mechanism to avoid partisan workaround) who gave comfort or aid to Jan 6 insurrection, or any other equivalent effort to deny elections beyond that allowed by law.

Solution #4) for Freedom and Equality: Pass law Clarifying how Judges and justices can be removed for not "Good Behaviour" in a simplified process (Not impeachment) per the constitution.

Solution #5) for Freedom and Equality: Pass law Clarifying how the president and every other person in government can be restrained to obey their oath even when they do not want to, despite the administration backing them up. Add to this clarification of punishments for willfully violating the law, including in their job, or incidental to their job, once out of office, including the president. Clarify no option to pardon self, or declassify without detailed documentation and process.

If they are not 'at risk' while in office, then the statute of limitations is on hold for that time.

Solution #6) for Freedom and Equality: Pass law Clarifying the tradition of Filibuster or 'Senatorial privilege' does not permanently block anything from getting a vote.

Solution #7) for Freedom and Equality: Pass law to change how police are judged under federal law, so they cannot easily evade responsibility for killing or beating people (AKA Black Lives Matter), or kidnapping them either (Border patrol).

Solution #8) for Freedom and Equality: Push for a new effort to pass a Women's rights amendment, might include gay rights as well.

Solution #9) for Freedom and Equality: Pass law Clarifying anyone obeying an illegal order is guilty of a crime, with detailed enforcement mechanism and punishments, so that an out of control administration can be reigned in.

Solution #10-for Freedom and Equality: Pass a broad and effective immigration bill. We already have a bipartisan one ready to vote on.

Solution #11-for Freedom and Equality: Pass a law changing how we make various drugs illegal and their punishments to factor in addiction, actual damage, drug companies and criminal enterprises. No need to make it easy to have everybody who is poor or homeless have a criminal record. Should factor in equivalent laws for Alcohol and their toxicity level. Base it on the premise that Prohibition was felt to be needed to be an amendment, and that it was repealed by an amendment, to make it harder for the courts to undo.

Solution #12-for Freedom and Equality: Pass a law clarifying the grounds for declaring the federal right to an abortion based upon the 13th Amendment (Her body, Her choice to not provide life support to a fetus), to make it harder for the courts to undo.

Solution #13-for Freedom and Equality: Pass a law to clarify that organizations, including companies, are NOT people and do not have more rights than people and can in fact have any rights of free speech limited for our elections and donations thereof. Specifically designed to undo "Citizens United", which since it was based on a tortured interpretation of "Free Speech" and money being equivalent can be corrected with 'clarification'.

Solution #1) for economic Equality: "Fair Play" - Mandate that only companies that comply with our minimum federal laws regarding employees, customers, vendors and environmental protection can sell into the US. Look to RoHS and ISO 9000 mandates from Europe for how to manage that at no cost to our government. Encourages companies to not offshore as a strictly cost evasion tactic. Levels playing field, at least mostly, with our own companies.

Solution #2) for economic Equality: Mandate an aggressive profit sharing plan in every company and standards for incrementing pay scales so that exceptional people can be rewarded based on their contribution, but not at ridiculous levels like is far too common for CEOs, and not at ridiculously low wages for the lower ranks. Spreads the wealth.

Solution #3) for economic Equality: Board of directors of international companies and the Chief Officers of the company nationality (including where they live) must be proportionate with their employees. Encourages companies to not offshore.

Solution #4) for economic Equality: Make it illegal to rent/lease houses, can still rent out a room as long as owner lives in the house. Create option of 'rent to own' with equity gained while 'renting'. Currently banks etc own LOTS of houses, in order to prop up the price of houses and their rents. Money industry thinks in terms of renting out money, but renting houses is more inflation resistant.

Solution #5) for economic Equality: Invest in research for building houses less expensively, longer lasting, easier to maintain, lower energy... Building codes have escalated the safety of houses, but we still have essentially the same tech as ever in building them. Set a national standard for safety that takes costs into account. States may be able to vary that, but most will accommodate the national as simpler to manage.

Solution #6) for economic Equality: Free Public Colleges in states willing to work with the fed. Educational Department invest in and make free a broad range of educational materials (print, audio, video, software...) for a very broad range of subjects, including language, music, accounting, science, engineering, business, welding... K-12 and trade schools and college level through masters programs, Organized and Available. Make 'degree' and 'certificate' testing inexpensive and available. Make 'for profit' universities have to compete. The repository of knowledge will grow every year. States can still mandate their own standards and use other educational materials.

Solution #7) for economic Equality: Medicare for all. Maximum profits per medication (based on a formula to still encourage investment) to keep it fair. Increase number of doctors graduated in medical schools (currently limited). Include dental care, eye exams and stop predatory pricing by doctors and hospitals when not covered by insurance.

Solution #8) for economic Equality: National bank, for money transactions and a national bank debit card all at no cost. Banks can compete with other services. People and businesses are no longer paying a significant percentage or fees for computerized transactions. Can not be 'black-balled' from national bank by other banks. No overdraft, no loans. Other banks would have to honor a debit card transaction from the National bank at no service charge.

Solution #9) for economic Equality: Create National Insurance company, for cars, houses, life, medical... based upon strict actuarial tables with only enough profit to make the fund functional at zero loss or profit for the fund/national company. It is time to take back our risk management without letting other companies profit from our loss and benefit from denying righteous claims.

Solution #10) for economic Equality: Use the VA home loans as a model for extending this option to other people, may even extend it to cars. This concept that people with poor credit pay more just creates perpetual poverty. Solve the problems in other ways than gaining more profit from poor people, effectively our credit/loan system is a tax on the poor.

Solution #11) for economic Equality: Mandate for Federal and State income taxes, they must ALL have a free, available, fully functional software for ALL of the relevant tax laws to make it manageable for free. There will still be room for experts to earn a living, but we have an entire industry profiting off of the complexity of our tax system.

Solution #12) for economic equality: All decisions we currently require people to be of a certain age to make, can not be replaced with any form of AI. Human of age and other requirements is still needed to make the decisions.

Solution #13) for economic Equality: Pass a tax law that ensures people who are 'living well' are taxed accordingly. If you borrow from yourself to avoid paying taxes, and then do not pay it back, you need to pay. No longer able to hide assets or funds and live off of them tax free. Above a certain wealth level, they must be charged a fee to pay for a thorough audit every year and the legal prosecution of it. In other words, when they create a more complex/deceptive tax filing and set of books, the IRS can hire an independent auditor (who works on a partial commission) with full subpoena powers and an independent prosecuting lawyer to prosecute so the wealthy person is paying to be audited and prosecuted, even when they win the case. Removes any 'funding' issues and rewards companies for being open and clear in their book-keeping. If need be, push to pass an amendment allowing a wealth tax, modeled after property taxes.

There is of course more, such as addressing AI directly and the consquences it will bring. It will certainly be used and abused and mass layoffs will result, further disrupting our economy. I am not simply a Luddite, I observe the consequences over time and see a pattern. There are reasons for certain social movements and it generally comes down to the basics of anxiety concerning survival.

The real strength of Americans is in pushing back against the overreach of the current administration. Nobody voted for masked agents in unmarked cars manhandlling random people to deport them to places they have no ties to, only a handful of people voted to lower taxes on bllionaires at the expense of people who can't afford health insurance and food for their families. his orangeness and his minions are making America great for those who already had it great and miserable for the rest of us. Those who are not deluded by the BS but willing to see that their lives are not what they want them to be and have any compassion for someone they are not directly connected to will vote to bring an end to the glorification of meanest, cruelty and excess.

My heart is beating so fast after reading your well laid out explanation of how the Democrats can win in the primaries and beyond. Number One thing is to have candidates who support and stand for freedoms and supports of all kinds that have been threatened by the current administration. I see some bright lights stepping forward who will undoubtedly shine light on the way forward.

Wouldn't it be amazing (in our supposed democracy) if representatives really a) listened to their consituents (they'd have to hold town halls, I guess, and actually campaign the way Mamdani has) and b) actually represented them after getting elected, then, stayed in touch--I don't know, via maybe a monthly newsletter--to keep them apprised (with links to verify) of what they are doing?!? Will Democrats hold their noses to stop the authoritarian regime from continuing to desecrate the country? I know I will. But I will also do a deep dive on the Democratic candidate runing on my ticket. All of our systems are broken (and many have been for years). It's time for accountability, retribution, and a new beginning!

Now is our moment—take action against this harmful government. Covering up a pedophile ring. Ignoring court orders. Blatant corruption. The poor, the needy, and children are being abused—by our government. In the streets we must protest outright crooks and the pedophiles until after their shooting us starts, until we go down or we oust tyrants. I made 54 protest signs, and will make many more to share. You will see something different in these signs! Help yourself to this second batch, and share them as far as you can.

The consistent stifling of progressive candidates may actually be doing serious damage to the youngest new voters, which is the demographic least likely to be accurately represented by these polls. Watching the voice that inspires them be buried o er and over again by status quo “just give me more money because Trump bad” is cutting them off at the knees. This important demographic is less likely to show up at all, let alone for Democrats whose hypocrisy is on display for the last 50 years. Don’t count on it, is what I’m saying.

Will voting in Dems solve war mongering problems? No.

Will it solve our suppression o free speach? NO

Will it solve capitalism's march to further oligarch rule? NO

Will it solve our health care cost problem? No

Not sure what problems will be solved by voting in Dems. Please list them for me in your next op-ed.

I'm believe a strong 3rd party participation into our current duopoly system might be the cure. DEI thru 3rd party strength is my choice. As is choice rank voting. As is erasure of the electoral college.
