I like the way Newsom is fighting back. At least someone has a spine. The problem is, he is from California and it is too easy of a target for anyone in the South. I agree he would be a good Cabinet member. I don't agree about having a non-politician. There is too big of a curve for Joe Average to run the United States of America. A bit too big of a stretch. I don't think anyone currently in the running will work. There are some fine candidates, but they all have an achilles heel. We need a slightly left of moderate, not someone off in the weeds, and I am sorry but the country is not ready for a woman. That is a twice proven fact. Also, Democrats have to stop pandering to every group. Their audience should be the American family, whether than means a single parent, a whole family, an adoptive family, a gay family or a family with no children at all. Jobs, lower taxes for middle class, help with education and investment in technology, which includes solar and wind power. One clear message and if you don't like it then vote Republican and see what happens next.
30:22 is spot on. My next question is: How do congressmen, senators, and candidates actually access earned media to get their message in front of voters?
Here’s the spoiler: we’ve built the tech to do exactly that, and we’re already in discussions with several Democratic candidates.
At the last election, Democrats assumed they could simply outspend their opponents and win. But this cycle is different. New election. New rules. New media landscape.
If Democrats want to compete, they need to harness local media with the same intensity that Trump has leveraged national media.
Make BIG promises. Use BLUNT language. Do not be afraid to call a spade a "F***ing shovel". Sure, we can be truthful, the truth is on our side, but leave the details for the website. Most voters (or at least far too many) are like Trump and do not read, they do not study, so DO NOT BORE THEM with the wonky details. You want free media? You EARN it by doing big bold things. Make accusations, even if the proof is not fully documented with chain of evidence, sworn testimony under oath... For instance "Trump is not just a rapist pedophile, he was partner to Epstein in his business" Let the opponent prove you wrong. Pick fights, even with people on your side. Sure it is 'performative', but the media feeds on conflict and the voters want to hear how you are different.
Republicans, and certainly Trump, never worry about being factual, truthful, correct, or considerate so they can talk in blunt language, simple words, big promises and outright lies. But, because Democrats are so very careful with their words, they sound like lawyers (and many of them are) so most voters are not following the precision of the language, but sense that is what is happening, so they assume there is something being hidden from them, that the politician is trying to be deceptive. Then the Democrats decline to be crude or rude (for fear of offending someone), so voters assume the person is not being a strong advocate. That they are just part of the 'club' and at the end of the day will be sipping wine with the person who just voted to gut their health coverage or something, so why vote for them, 'there is no difference', they are both part of the same party. It does not help that that is very much the attitude in the Senate, so people do not hear that the politician is really on their side in this fight. Then the Democrats are so very careful to not overpromise, so they announce policies that are minimal, incremental, help this small group, and that small group... and the voters think 'He sounds good, for THOSE people, but who is promising things that will help ME?'
Trump just goes out there, makes stuff up, including crisis that are not based in reality, accusations with no evidence, insults, blunt lies, BIG lies, and says it all with no hesitation so the voters believe him, because the voters are not thinking. They do not even read the wikipedia page on the candidates. They do not see the crimes and other judgements against Trump, recall his history, any of his constant lies... They see confidence and plain language with promises they want to believe.
Trump communicates emotionally whereas Democrats communicate intellectually. Guess which one most voters connect with.
And he is a White Man and there are far too many people, even among minorities and women who think of White Men as the natural leaders in life, out of sheer habit and what they have always seen, so these voters do nt even need to be racist or Misogynist to vote for him out of habit (Note Biden beat Trump).
Ortez-Cortez and Bernie would never win the Presidency so who is left? Newsom, maybe he is certainly more of a pragmatist and that is what we need since the Repubs are not disappearing any time soon, regardless of what you think. Also OC and Bernie want to give freebies away to people that do not deserve them. They say the "rich" will pay for it but that is misleading. The thing is who do they define as rich in the first place?, working people who have decent jobs are NOT the rich, but they would be taxed unfairly if OC and Bernie have their way.
Don't count Pete out. You may not have noticed, but he is doing the work to reinvent himself for the coming 2028 race. He is a white male. That helps with voters. He can talk in clear language. He is careful but without sounding deceitful. Not sure where he will end up, but he is someone to watch.
Seriously, the fake wrestling is what we're talking about here? Come on. You "boys" feel free to get all chummy with that like a beer after work, and those of us who are working our asses off & are serious about this shit are like are you fucking kidding me? The first of your substacks I have seriously disliked.
100% Newsom should not be the nominee. Is he fighting and is something we have missed from our politics first party? Absolutely (even your buddy Schiff!) :) Newsom has always had political aspirations and he filled his coffers off the back of Californias, PG&E, our refineries and I'm sure AT&T have all been very nice to him. He is going to continue because he and his team, maybe with the same paid backers, spreading Newsom 2028. Yes we need fighters, but we need "I think" non political first, leaders. (Teachers, engineers, chefs, home makers!). For his fight, maybe a Senate seat, hell even a position in the administration, but the soiled chair, nah! I've been #NeverNewsom for a long time, this is not new for me and this push stinks, just to be clear. I don't hate him, I think he's done many things well, but I see through him and have been following him for sometime.
