A man in his sixties. A paraplegic, in a wheelchair. Lined up in front of members of the United States military so they can shoot him. And maybe livestreamed on the fucking internet, or carried live on Fox News.
That’s what Pete Hegseth wants. He just announced that America will carry out its first public execution in nearly 100 years.
I haven’t been able to shake it. I shot a video on it. I talked about it on CNN Friday night. And this weekend, at a family wedding, surrounded by people I love, I kept coming back to it. How did we get here? What the hell are we doing?
I do not want to live in a country that carries out public executions. That puts us on the same list as Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan, and I can’t think of many lists I’d want to share with those three.
Let me be clear: the man they plan to put to death is a monster. What he did was horrific, and I have no sympathy for him. But I don’t believe in the death penalty. I think it’s morally wrong, and it’s a terrible deterrent. The idea that someone set on a murderous rampage will stop to weigh the consequences has always seemed silly to me. And turning it into a public spectacle doesn’t make it justice. It makes it theater.
We’ve always known there’s cruelty and chaos at the heart of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. We see it in what they say. We see it in what they do. We see it in who they use the government to help and who they use it to hurt.
But even this seems to be too much for a lot of them. J.D. Vance, the Vice President of the United States, was asked about it and looked deeply uncomfortable. Even Trump seemed a little unnerved.
Pete Hegseth, though? That slobbering, disgusting, incompetent boob is thrilled.
I’m convinced very few Americans actually want this. Outside a handful of dipshit incels who worship guys like Hegseth and the Tate brothers, there’s no audience for it. So why are we pandering to those losers? Why are we tolerating this?
Here’s the thing: the votes to remove Pete Hegseth exist right now. Republicans and Democrats are sick of his bullshit. And Mike Johnson shut down Congress to protect him.
This guy has got to go. He’s dumb. He’s corrupt. He’s destroying our military. He’s purging hardworking people. And he’s doing stupid shit like this that sets America back and makes us look horrible on the world stage.
I have a ton of empathy for everyone, including people who didn’t vote for the candidates I believe in. But if you can hear the news of a public execution and your heart doesn’t sink, something is fundamentally wrong in your soul.
So here’s my optimistic note: we don’t have to tolerate this shit anymore. We have these guys on the run. When Democrats take back the House and the Senate in November, we’ll have the power to remove Pete Hegseth ourselves.
Most of this fight will be about the economy. It’ll be about the corruption and the lives they’ve wrecked. But it’s also about who we are. And I keep thinking about that wedding. A room full of people dancing, crying, laughing, holding each other. That’s America. That’s the country worth fighting for. Not a firing squad on a livestream.

I don’t either, man.
I DON’T WANT MY COUNTRY TO HAVE PUBLIC EXECUTIONS.
