Obama is way too old: this is how we shoot ourselves in the foot. I've heard Hillary being proposed too. We need to look for a much younger person. I think it's unlikely because of their strategy of appointing very young justices. Barrett and Gorsuch were both in their 40s, and Kavanaugh in his very early 50s. Cruz will be 56 at the end of this year (I know, I know, he seems much older; people always thought I was lying when I said he and Beto O'Rourke were basically the same age — Beto just two years younger.)
Texas is clearly stupid for keeping Cruz in office. What he did when TX had that massive power outage and freeze should've been enough to see exactly how much he cared about his constituents. They still want to listen to this guy. The dumbest voters are keeping the country from advancing where it should be and it needs to stop. Cruz should be ashamed for crouching under the desk of Trump along with the rest of the cowardly gop.

I love their model — volunteers don't just register a voter but exchange contacts and they stay in touch until the voter has cast their ballot. So if a voter wants to know what ID to take to the polls, they can call the person who registered them. Or if polling places are closed (as they just closed a huge bunch in Tarrant County — Fort Worth — the volunteer can call the voter in that area and tell them where they can vote and make sure they can get there. They trialed the program in 2024 on a couple of college campuses and increased turnout from 39% to 79%. This machine is now being deployed on behalf of Talarico, Hinojosa and other Democrats.
It's not that Texas voters are "dumb." It's just one of the lowest turnout states in the country — intentionally.
You’ve written a terrific warning. AI is already ahead of people in aggravating information across the whole internet world. It thinks faster than any one of us. Now that it’s here there is no putting the toothpaste back in the tube. If guardrails can be universally determined and coded now would be the smart direction to go to avoid this AI Armageddon (if there is to be one). Those of you who are old enough to remember the days when computers were made available and everyone was trying to learn, there was a popular phrase “garbage in, garbage out”. This is just such a moment. AI has no ability to have an agenda to “take over”. It doesn’t have feelings. Like the computers of old, it only does what the human programs it to do. No independent thoughts. So organize a committee of savy individuals and create guardrails to structure AI so if some human, unintentionally or not, gives it a command that would send it off in some destructive path it will be stopped. Humans must take responsibility and not fall into some sci-fi movie script. BUILD GUARDRAILS! instead of standing and wringing hands!

Yes, the genie is out of the bottle, but that does not mean it cannot be regulated and controlled and possibly paused to consider all of the factors that will be/might be altered b/c of it. Lying Ted Cruz has never said anything intelligent in his life so I hope most people know that. China has more control over their AI input than we do maybe due to the nature of their government, regardless, they are not going to let their people face the threat of an AI gone wrong. This is just another boogie man that is being thrown in the face of Americans. AI can be used to better the world but that is not what I see happening. The concept of building Killer Robots is insanity. Anytime there is a decision to kill someone, whether its on the street or in a war, there should always be a person behind that decision to kill someone. The act of killing should never be left to a robot or AI. No one should listen to anything Ted Cruz says and they certainly should be following him for any reason. I haven't heard a sane argument from him since before he ran away from the cold weather in Texas. That shows he doesn't have the balls to be a senator much less a Supreme Court justice.

Your comment reminds me of that Star Trek Original Series episode about the planet that was proud of how humanely it conducted its war. Computer simulations were substituted for real bombs. People received notification of their deaths and calmly went to the gas chamber. They had been at war for over 100 years. It's easy to go to war if you don't personally experience the consequences.
