You’ve written a terrific warning. AI is already ahead of people in aggravating information across the whole internet world. It thinks faster than any one of us. Now that it’s here there is no putting the toothpaste back in the tube. If guardrails can be universally determined and coded now would be the smart direction to go to avoid this AI Armageddon (if there is to be one). Those of you who are old enough to remember the days when computers were made available and everyone was trying to learn, there was a popular phrase “garbage in, garbage out”. This is just such a moment. AI has no ability to have an agenda to “take over”. It doesn’t have feelings. Like the computers of old, it only does what the human programs it to do. No independent thoughts. So organize a committee of savy individuals and create guardrails to structure AI so if some human, unintentionally or not, gives it a command that would send it off in some destructive path it will be stopped. Humans must take responsibility and not fall into some sci-fi movie script. BUILD GUARDRAILS! instead of standing and wringing hands!

Yes, the genie is out of the bottle, but that does not mean it cannot be regulated and controlled and possibly paused to consider all of the factors that will be/might be altered b/c of it. Lying Ted Cruz has never said anything intelligent in his life so I hope most people know that. China has more control over their AI input than we do maybe due to the nature of their government, regardless, they are not going to let their people face the threat of an AI gone wrong. Anytime there is a decision to kill someone, whether its on the street or in a war, there should always be a person behind that decision to kill someone. Your comment reminds me of that Star Trek Original Series episode about the planet that was proud of how humanely it conducted its war. Computer simulations were substituted for real bombs. People received notification of their deaths and calmly went to the gas chamber. They had been at war for over 100 years. It's easy to go to war if you don't personally experience the consequences. Given the recent reporting on the rapid progress of AI, how likely is it that autonomous agents capable of recursive self-improvement--where an AI designs successively smarter versions of itself--is already built and functioning by January 2029 when the next POTUS takes office? Once super-intelligent AI is built, what confidence level exists that it can be contained within a laboratory setting by the vastly inferior "intelligence" of the human beings who built it?
Side Note: hopefully we have a next president in 2029. Trump may not live that long or may be so obviously incapacitated that he can no longer function by then.
