In 2015 the Republicans were going to have a brokered convention to choose another candidate, but they realized that because Trump was so popular among the 80% of their base who are authoritarians they could not win without him. So the Republicans put party before country and chose an authoritarian Strong Leader who was not committed to democracy as their candidate. The Republicans knew what they were doing, a few of the party leaders, amazingly, refused to support their party's candidate.
To be a viable democracy a country needs at least two parties committed to democracy. The US is one party short. Unless and until the US has two viable parties committed to democracy, democracy in the US will be on life support.
We got here through the ignorance and apathy of the electorate. The only solution is education and engagement of the electorate. MAGA is actually a cult. Deprogramming cult members is a difficult, technical process. But there is about one third of the electorate which does not vote, it is these people who must be educated and engaged.
These apathetic and ignorant people must understand that our democracy is at risk. Until democracy is secured every other issue must take a backseat. Until the MAGA authoritarian cult has been stripped of national power there are only two sides, pro-democracy and anti-democracy.
I couldn't agree more. Saving democracy is not just the Democrat's task. There aren't enough of us. It's an American task and if we don't all think it's worth saving we can kiss it goodbye.
I imagine the TX Republicans are afraid they’ll have hell to pay for the terrible, awful immigration policy they have created in their state and the partnership they’ve fashioned with racists and fascists. The president isn’t likely the only one who is unpopular.
Have you or will you please discuss the many videos that are out there with trump saying that the election was rigged. He did it recently referring to his first term. Then several others where he says this one was rigged too.
While campaigning he told the crowds not to bother voting. He’s going to win no matter what or something close to those words.
I don’t see it discussed or even mentioned by democrats, talking, heads, or debated on social media. Maybe I’ve missed something. But would you be interested in discussing this on your podcast?
Thank you. I will become a paid follower. Not for the favor. I want free speech of truth tellers to be available. I’m a very senior activist for most my life. I’m tired and disappointed at where we are right now.
Yes!!!! I'm totally frustrated that Democratic leadership and democrats in general seem to just totally ignore some very compelling (albeit at this point, circumstantial) evidence that suggests we've been had - this past election was indeed "rigged". Why are we not digging furiously into this? Are we just weary - tired of fighting this seemingly endless battle yielding no victories or results? I'm too old for this s..t but where are all the young lions and the level headed political veterans who should be every bit as loud and outspoken about this as Trump and his enablers were during the 4 years after his insurrection attempt?
Earlier today Mike said that the current SCOTUS was very conservative. I have been thinking about it and I think they are reactionary and are making new law which in this case is extra Constitutional law which is illegal. Just a thought!

Absolutely agree. Dems don’t need to keep saying how bad Trump is, they need a true plan for addressing the issues that resulted in his election.
