Never said Biden had or has dementia. Just stated I had no idea in the context of the disastrous debate. Basically, a cya comment as I am neither a doctor nor medical professional. Trump? What I know for a fact is he falls asleep on camera, rambles incoherently, looks extremely unhealthy ( ok that’s an opinion not a fact). I could go on.
Sorry! I’ve often clicked on wrong reply myself. I supported Biden so I get defensive sometimes. Plus I still have PTSD over 2016 and that 2024 debate and subsequent media barrage against Biden.
They both were and are old. Did Biden have dementia at the time? I don't know. He looked and sounded terrible. Trump, rambled and lied - pretty much still doing it.

The day after the debate, Biden spent the entire day giving speeches at various campaign events. From the film I saw, he was perfect. Going into the debate, which he should have canceled IMO, he had been sick. He sounded like he'd taken a dose of Nyquil. He did some great things: covid, jobs, economy and he was no malignant narcissist.
Biden was the closest President to FDR that we saw in our lifetime. He did amazing things despite McConnell and others treating him as they had treated Obama.
He wasn't well at the time, the debate ‘moderators’ were shite, and Trump, as always, ran roughshod over him.
Remember when Hillary was debating Trump and he walked over to her to impose himself? I was really wishing that Secret Service guys would get in his face and MAKE him return to his space.
So you didn't listen to Biden speaking the DAY AFTER the Trump town hall (which was presented as a debate)? He was clear, he was well spoken, he made perfect sense.
Trump has NEVER made sense about anything, other than glorifying himself at EVERYONE ELSE'S expense.
Biden was called out of retirement, agreed to serve and was insulted ever after for not being young. Trump has never been anything but a low class entertainer.
They aren't the same, but Biden condemned the whole country and world to Trump with his hubris, as did his staff and family that all conspired to hide him as much as they could. It wasn't just the debate, that was just the last straw. He should not have run for a 2nd term, which he suggested he would do at the start of his term. a real primary race might have made a difference for Kamal or for whoever else might have won.
I'm sure you'll get no argument from anyone here that Trump is unwell and unfit and should be nowhere near the White House for a million reasons.
Sorry, it was not Biden who doomed this country. It was the voters. Put the blame where it belongs. Otherwise you sound like the 'guy' who blames the cops when a criminal who has taken hostages, kills one of the hostages. The voters are the ones who had their finger on the trigger. Biden bowed out BEFORE the nominating convention. If Biden had bowed out a year earlier, the primary may well have been a close one, decided shortly before the convention. We do not know how it would have worked out. The voters already knew about Harris, and how she was 'trained' by Biden.
Once the voters made their stupid choice, it was then Trump and his minions that chose to abandon all his promises, except for the truly evil ones which the voters should have realized were not going to end well.
I do agree Biden had a bad debate. It was bad because Biden played by the (deranged) rules of the debate, and Trump did not. Biden tried to answer complex policy questions, with nuance, in 90 seconds. Trump simply lied, accused, insulted, deflected, denied... and no one held him to account for his answers. Look again at the debate and you will see it clear as can be. Look at the nature of the questions and of their respective answers. Biden worked hard to obey the clock.
People WANTED Trump, after seeing his debates and his interviews.
AND how the MSM worked so hard to make the news cycles ALL about Biden and making assumptions in their questions. They worked hard to stack the deck against Biden, then Harris, both because a 'scandal' on Democrats is news, whereas a scandal on Trump is 'How many is that today?', and because you get higher ratings on your election coverage if it is a close election. I remember one interview of Harris, which she let herself get bullied into, and the interviewer, a black man, deliberately and aggressively pushed 'gotcha' questions at her, trying to create distance between her and Biden, including pushing her to declare how she would handle negotiations differently (Israel / Ukraine) than Biden. If she answered anything other than backing Biden's process and policy, she would be overtly undermining the ongoing touchy negotiations. Either way she answered would make her look bad. Trump would have answered a similarly engineered question with an attack, which to be honest would have been her best response. Democrats are too civilized, while the MSM and Republicans play hardball and are willing to cheat. Which is what is playing out right now with Platner. Trump would simply add it to his list of Rape accusations, including the one that was determined to be true in a jury trial. But the MSM see the Maine Senate election getting too one sided, and they need it closer to boost ratings, plus the scandal boosts ratings, and democrats have lost the ability to gauge the veracity of accusers or to weigh the consequences. The lady had YEARS to accuse Platner. He was not rich, was not famous, did not have high priced lawyers and 'fixers' to intimidate or buy off his 'victims' as Trump famously did. She kept the 'best for last', after the primary election was over... Just saying, it is a he-said / she said and her timing does not make her more credible.
I used to watch "The Maury Show" and some of those women who were proven wrong, were very convincing. Here the lady is just saying (at least once) that she said now and he insisted, during relationship where we assume there were many times when she said "yes". Makes it very messy when we consider her many possible reasons for either making a certain event more than it was, or inventing it altogether. Not declaring she is a liar, but I am not saying she is telling the truth either.
From my observation of Biden's term in office, where he only had (extremely narrow) Congressional majorities in his first two years, he got more done in that time than most presidents do in two full terms, regardless of congressional majorities. In the latter two years, Republicans, egged on by Trump, were outright hostile and had no interest in governing at all. When they did, Trump would stomp on them, and the cowered back in line. Even so, Biden out negotiated them consistently. Biden managed the international coalition for the defense of Ukraine, while avoiding our boots on the ground. NATO grew under Biden, in response to Russian aggression. Biden managed the economy so we had a better recovery than most every other nation. The entire world had major inflation and other problems from the 'supply chain' issues that hit everyone. I was an engineer at the time and I KNOW it hit us hard. We were trying to role out a new product and every week we had more parts we were told would not be available for way too long, so we had to change the design time after time. Not easy. Point is, it was real, and hist more than just semiconductors and was directly due to the Covid Pandemic, which MAGA wants to pretend was never very real.
Realistically, the inflation was cooling down and the Fed was looking forward to lowering their interest rates, until Trump sabotaged the economy. Usually Presidents do not have much real effect on the economy, but the last 7 years have been different, and they did have an effect.
Just looking at the big bailout bills etc under Trump versus Biden. Major graft and corruption, mismanagement with little if any oversight under Trump. No indication of any graft or corruption under Biden. Same to be said for the other bills and their rollout under Biden. This is unusual.
I am getting old, and I know some days are harder than others, and some days I have less energy, but what does not change is the ethics, the morals, the 'instincts' developed over several decades in a given profession. Biden's reputation for keeping his word, including when he is holding the line gave him more ability to negotiate, domestically and in foreign affairs. He hired the best, gave them direction and guidance. He was focused on doing his job rather than grifting or campaigning constantly. Reports that Biden was doing his job well, are NOT inconsistent with him being an old man. he knew what questions to ask, and how things get done.
As opposed to Trump who NEVER bothered to learn how to do the job right, and had no interest in the job, except where he could grift, or keep his 'militia' thugs motivated. So yeah, I respect Biden, but he was also limited by his history (not his age) to think in terms of 'sustaining', doing the normal job of governing, tweaking the details and passing standard types of bills. Biden did not address the foundational corruption of the system, the long term eroding of the economy, maybe saw it beyond his job, figured he did not have the political power to take it on, or was just blind to it.
Biden was elected to unwind from Trump, because Covid showed Trump to not be effective when we needed him. Biden was great, and probably figured his big bills would enable him to grow the economy enough to solve most of the problems for the people, without having to get into the major fight over corruption, but the people freaked over his age, because Trump pushed that button hard, and they freaked over a black woman, because a Black (Obama) and a Woman (Hillary) is a big part of how he got elected in 2016 Garland harder to punish the conspirators who orchestrated Jan 6, or just picked a more aggressive AG in the first place. But Biden was super ethical and wanted to reassure people he was not like Trump, so he picked Garland...
Biden was who he was, and his age was never really the most significant factor, except in people's minds, because a bully told them it was. Even if he was 30 years younger, it would have played out similar, because Trump lied, played the media and the 'political class' with his accusations and made countless promises he had no interest in keeping, and the media allowed him to normalize his lies and his crimes. And of course, he had many billionaires funding his campaign, because ,,, Money in politics.
I dont't really feel like debating with people I likely agree with on many topics, but I will respond since there are some pretty off the mark comments here.
Your analogy of blaming cops is nonsensical, but whatever.
Then you make excuses for Biden's abysmal debate performance, which, again, was the last straw, which came after years of legitimate questions about his health...forget what Trump or the big bad media was saying, this has now come from practically every person that was anywhere near him (and Biden has basically vanished from the public since then).
Your comments about the fact that Biden bowed out 'BEFORE the convention' are equally nonsensical. So what? He bowed out so late that there were no good options at all, and only when nearly every person everywhere was calling for him to step down. There was no time to have any meaningful campaign at that point.
BIg picture..this constant ' yea but, Trump' approach that so many Dems and their supporters, including other commenters here, have adopted as a response to or excuse for everything is not working, and it hasn't for a while.
Yes., Trump is abjectly awful. But it is not enough for Dems to just be not Trump.
The constant blaming of everyone but Biden (and Harris) for the devastating 2024 loss is also getting pretty old. Yes the legacy media often sucks..did that just start a couple years ago? . Yes Trump has a cult like following..this was well known by then. This is one reason why Dems are better than the GOP.
What did Biden do to counter this impression that he was aging fast and wouldn't be able to be in office four more years? Nada. Zip.
It is a glaringly obvious indictment of the Democratic Party that they lost to such a horrible person as Trump not only for a second time, when everyone knew what he was about, but by even bigger margins, and they also lost the Senate and the House.
So, yes, Biden absolutely should take responsibility for this. He said when he first entered office that '' I view myself as a bridge, not as anything else,” Biden said. “There’s an entire generation of leaders you saw stand behind me. They are the future of this country.”' Instead, he chose to run again, even when his approval ratings were awful, even when it has been at least a year already by that point that it was obvious to everyone that his health was failing.
But all the blame isn't on him. His handlers, his staff, so many leading Dems helped cover up or gloss over the fact that he did next to no interviews for ages, that he clearly limited his public appearances... it is beyond belief that both Schumer and Jeffries kept their jobs as leaders of the respective chambers after such a terrible loss.
It was never going to be easy to overcome to post-pandemic inflation, but the Dems approach to just say 'actually, the economy is great' was not good, to say the least...and of course, Biden and Harris's open support for genocide did not help.
And this led to the the ridiculous snafu in the summer of 2024 that left Harris with next to no time to build a campaign, with the terrible decision to appoint her rather than have any sort of voter choice (although of course that would have been extremely difficult too, which again is on Biden's shoulders for waiting for long to drop out)... Harris had an almost impossible task....but even that was mismanaged. Embracing Liz Cheney while shunning supporters of Palestinian rights was a batshit insane decision., for one thing..
BIden did many good things in his first couple years, then it was downhill, in more ways than one..now the base wants real, principled fighters , and we are seeing more and more of that in recent elections.
PS I was giving Platner the benefit of the doubt too, but , nope. He is done and needs to go ASAP..at least Maine will have a better chance to fix this than the Dems did in 2024. There are some really good candidates that can beat Collins.

All the micro heart attacks didn't help 💔 you generally dont just freeze up in the middle of a speech for no reason. This has been building for awhile.
Great rap session. Everyone who runs for any government position in the senate or house should have to have a full medical and mental health exam and also full financial disclosure. This should also apply to the president. Make it mandatory.

You want to end corruption? Punish those who are corrupt. Raise the penalties until no one wants to risk it. Vote for Senators who have sufficient honor and who themselves oppose corruption sufficiently to impeach and remove a corrupt officeholder (such as the president).
Remove ALL money from politics. ALL of it. Remove the very idea that "Money = Speech" because that simply means a rich person's money can drown out the voice of countless poor people. Take away the media companies, ALL of them, from ownership by the wealthy. Stop the current practices of Lobbyists.
Yes, block politicians from 'playing' the stock market. Monitor their accounts, have ethics rules ENFORCED.
All term limits will do is create more amateurs in congress, who will be MORE influenced, 'managed' by their staff, their 'handlers'.
Age limit? Maybe, but how about a proper, ethical physical and mental exam where the person being evaluated has NO WAY to influence what gets reported. In a given 6 year term (for a senator) Dementia can first be noticed and become full blown before their term is over. Same for many other illnesses which can also have an impact on their ability to perform their duties properly.
I think we should do all of that and term limits and no stock trading. If you want to argue with someone or be right please talk to someone else. I'm not here to write treaties and every thing we need to do. It was a simple observation based on their discussion

'Frankie and Johnny and Luigi too", Mountain View California. My adventurous Midwestern mom took me there in the '50s for my first pizza. A hole in the wall that on last sighting had lines around the block.
Seems like SCOTUS-stuffer Turtlehead McConnell has finally met his karma, being a brain-dead stooge for Trumpenstain and the fracturing MAGAtQ Republican death cultists of the fascist-loving far right — he’s always been “The Grim Reaper Against Democracy!”
What a SAD, pathetic legacy for the former “hanging judge” of Jefferson County (Louisville, KY)…good riddance, McConnell!
GOOD POINT. Rethugs may have sent her to China so as NOT to pull the plug, so they can pull a "Weekend at Mitch's" situation. And why isn't Beshear allowed to appoint a Dem replacement if McConnell dies/resigns? PS I'm in Los Angeles.
I vote in Maine. I supported Platner after a balanced, well-thought through review. I made a major contribution to his campaign ONE HOUR before I heard about the Politico story. Pissed off doesn't come close to describing my dismay. I had no idea, Mike about the way he was recruited; it explains volumes. That's all news to me. But I'm not gonna despair over it. Yes, Katie, either Troy or Shenna, both of whom I know and worked with on political matters near and deqr to Mainers over 23 years of sharing ideas and issues directly with legislators and legislative committees, kind of a Maine tradition many reps and senators encourage their constituents to perform. Either of them could do the job. Both have solid political careers behind them and could step into the Senatorial satisfactorily. We'll figure it out, send a bus ticket home to the Lady of Perpetual Concerns, wherever she'd like to take it up.
Noting that both Mike and Katie do great work...they spend the first several minutes talking about aging representatives....they mention Biden and others, rightly..
But then later in the convo, Katie says she supported the 78 year old Janet Mills in Maine?
So many are talking about the warning signs with Platner and such...while avoiding the even bigger simple factor that voters in Maine were not interested in Janet Mills, yet another establishment, near octogenarian ....despite this, centrist Dems from Schumer on down were pushing her hard.
If the Democratic Party is mad about Platner's nomination, they need to stop nominating and pushing bad, uninspiring candidates like Mills. The Dem base is simply sick of these types of politicians.
Platner should go, no doubt, I imagine he will be out of the race within 24 hours. But the worst thing that could happen would be for Mills to re enter. There are a number of other genuine progressive candidates that can take Platner's place.
Troy Jackson sounds like a great possibility, that can being progressive fighter energy with experience and not the baggage.
Agree. If establishment Dems had not been so eager to push yet another “moderate” almost 80-year-old on an electorate which clearly has been turning away from such candidates we might not have had Platner. (Btw, I’m over 70.)
If you're referring to the elderly class of politicians, this isn't new. One of the things they were afraid of when JFK was killed is that if LBJ has ALSO been killed, the presidency would have gone to the elderly McCormick, then Speaker of the House.
Biden had terrible debate. Outside of that, Trump has been a rambling idiot. Biden never fell asleep on camera. Stop making it sound like Biden was the same.
Well, both were old with dementia. That’s about it
Biden doesn't have dementia...he's just getting old.
trump is sundowning even as we speak
I do agree, the Orange 🍊 Man is getting worse every day!!
Biden has not got dementia. He is fitter than Trump. He is fighting cancer for goodness sakes.
I didn’t know 😬. Do you know what kind he has?
Biden didn’t have actual dementia. Every doctor, speech therapist, and anyone with family can see Trump has dementia.

People WANTED Trump, after seeing his debates and his interviews.
I also blame the MSM for how they sane-washed Trump and continue to do so.
Yes!
They were fooled in the end.
Only the first part of the debate. The rest was fine. But MAGA are brainwashed to jump on Biden. Joe staunched the bleeding of Trump's first term.

As you say, we agree on many topics. I am willing to have our two posts stand as displaying both sides of the debate. Thank you.
Bull on all counts.
I can't tell what you're responding to, but since you give no details , no argument and no actual meaningful comment at all, I don't really care.
The Orange 🍊 Man is definitely in worse shape than Biden ever was!

🕯️ The Ledger of Liberty and Control
Far across the wide ocean, for sixteen long years,
The Kremlin’s own budget has fed people's fears.
The rubles are routed to weapons and war,
While ordinary citizens knock at the door. 🇷🇺
The wealthy oligarchs gather the gold,
While hospitals crumble and towns suffer cold.
With checks and balances entirely gone,
The state feeds the army from dusk until dawn. ⚔️
But America built up a different design,
When Teddy Roosevelt drew a firm line.
His Square Deal protected the land and the citizen,
And checked corporate power to help every city win. 🐻
Then Franklin D. Roosevelt’s historic New Deal
Gave public infrastructure true staying steel.
Through twenty-twenty-four, we kept building our best,
With schools and health safety to answer the test. 🏛️
Yet the Forty-Seventh President's modern-day guide
Turns back the great values where safety applied.
The new federal budget plans historic deep cuts,
To domestic programs and well-traveled ruts. 📉
The Department of Education faces the blade,
While vital health research sees funding delayed.
The CDC’s programs are slashed to the floor,
Shifting billions from care to the focus of war. 🎒
When budgets favor power over public well-being,
It changes the system that citizens are seeing.
A shift from the values of common good grace,

McConnell’s neighbor apparently confirmed McConnell died before EMS arrived.
Great rap session. Everyone who runs for any government position in the senate or house should have to have a full medical and mental health exam and also full financial disclosure. This should also apply to the president. Make it mandatory.
And then yearly, but managed in a way where the person being examined can not influence what gets reported (6'3" and 245 lbs?).

Any candidate for Cingress or President MUST be vetted for loyalty to America….not to another government.
US government out of control, while being ineffective at the same time. “Popular vote” is not working in this deceptive age of glamorizing publicity.
term limits for everyone. it will help with corruption
It was a simple observation based on their discussion

ethics are not very enforceable. I saw make it the law and enforce.
Certainly. As we have seen in SCOTUS, without enforcement, corruption flourishes.
I agree 💯, and the sooner the better! The whole regime needs to be jailed!!!

'Frankie and Johnny and Luigi too", Mountain View California. My adventurous Midwestern mom took me there in the '50s for my first pizza. A hole in the wall that on last sighting had lines around the block.
I love soft chewy cheese stuffed crust veggie pizza!!
McConnell & his gang of "GOP" in KY changed the law in KY a few years ago.
Probably because he knew his day was coming sooner than later!💀
Exactly! Brain dead means just that, DEAD!!!
so correct Mike. Paxton is a SCUMBAG
This is why Trump supports Paxton: they are both criminals, with no moral compass.
Trump does not trust honorable people.
Well, to be fair, they have nothing in common.
Term limits for Congress.
Term limits for SCOTUS.
I am mid 50s and I like my mid 30s mayor (Mamdani)
Why can't the governor of kentucky demand an answer on proof of life and condition
Good 👍🏼 point
He should send in the Kentuckey Guard.

So did Warren I believe.
Also green peppers Apple Arlee!
What happened to doing the right thing. Use to be, if people couldn’t serve, they would drop out for the good of the country
If you're referring to the elderly class of politicians, this isn't new. One of the things they were afraid of when JFK was killed is that if LBJ has ALSO been killed, the presidency would have gone to the elderly McCormick, then Speaker of the House.
This is Platner's one and only chance. He probably won't even be able to run for city council or the like after all this. He knows that, I think.
New age of politics
I'm from Texas. Ken Paxton is the worst of the worst
….and Paxton will be able to draw a retirement annuity with full medical benefits for the rest of his life.
They all have the best insurance and retirement can buy. They all want to stay in a lifetime.
