Hey folks,
I was back on Newsmax talking about the looming shutdown and the DHS funding fight, and what’s obvious to anyone paying attention is this: Washington isn’t stuck because there are no solutions—it’s stuck because bad politics keep overruling common sense.
Republicans are suddenly acting wobbly on immigration not because they’ve had a change of heart, but because the consequences of their tactics are catching up with them. When ICE operations spiral into chaos, when people are killed during enforcement actions, and when accountability is nowhere to be found, public opinion turns fast. That’s exactly what we’re seeing right now.
If this administration had focused on the basics—secure the border, go after violent criminals, drug traffickers, and predators—we wouldn’t be here. Instead, they leaned into the Stephen Miller version of politics: escalate, provoke, and dare people to react. Americans aren’t rejecting enforcement; they’re rejecting recklessness.
This shutdown fight isn’t really about funding levels or short-term deals. It’s about whether anyone in power is willing to admit that cruelty isn’t a strategy and chaos isn’t leadership. There’s still a path forward, but it requires choosing results over red meat—and right now, too many people in Washington are choosing the opposite.
