The Letitia James Indictment Is Bigger Than You Think
Trump’s revenge tour has entered a dangerous new phase.
So Donald Trump finally got the Department of Justice to indict New York Attorney General Letitia James on these bullshit fraud charges. Obviously, it’s part of his broader revenge tour—going after anyone who’s ever crossed him or poses a threat to whatever dystopian nightmare he’s trying to turn this country into.
He’s going after James Comey. He’s going after Adam Schiff. He’s going after ActBlue and key pieces of the Democratic Party’s infrastructure. He’s gone after lawyers. Comedians. Harvard. Whole institutions—demanding loyalty pledges like he’s some wannabe emperor of academia.
And still, according to most of the traditional media and literally the entire Republican Party, we’re not allowed to call this fascism. We’re the ones who are “inappropriate” for pointing out that this is what fascism looks like. That these are the actions of a man who wants to rule as an authoritarian.
And here’s the thing: this is going to keep getting worse before it gets better. Because neither Congress nor the courts seem willing to stand up to a president who’s losing popularity but gaining power. He keeps testing the boundaries—reaching out and poking at the walls of democracy we all assumed were stone, only to realize they’re paper.
The rumor mill is wild right now about who’s next. They want to take down George Soros. They want to destroy Indivisible—the group helping organize street-level resistance. They want to go after political operatives, activists, anyone with a voice that stands in opposition to this president.
Look at what they did to John Bolton. That raid wasn’t just about embarrassing a Trump critic—it was about silencing someone who dared call out Trump’s foreign policy, especially around Russia and Ukraine. And let’s not forget: during his campaign, Trump openly promised political revenge. Most people didn’t take it seriously. His base thought he’d focus on their problems.
But once in power, it’s clear—he’s only focused on his problems. On flexing. On punishing. On ICE terrorizing cities like Chicago. On building monuments to himself in D.C. He’s not doing anything to help you.
He’s not using that power to make groceries cheaper. Or rent. Or health insurance. But he’ll absolutely use it to go after comedians who made a joke he didn’t like. He’ll use it to tear down the infrastructure that helps his opposition win elections.
And Democrats have been winning this year. That’s part of what this is. What’s happening to Tish James, Comey, Schiff—it’s dangerous. Most of it will probably get tossed out in court, and that’s the point. He wants the spectacle. He wants to drain them dry—money, energy, reputation—while they fight bogus charges.
Maybe he’ll get some convictions. I doubt it. And even if he does, they’ll be garbage—eventually overturned. The Comey charges are especially ridiculous. But it won’t stop him. This is lawfare—exactly what Republicans accused Democrats of. It’s a calculated, relentless assault to bleed the other side dry.
And it’s only going to escalate—just like what’s happening in Chicago. Every day, they get more brazen. Yes, they’re getting less popular—and that does matter. We’ve got an election in 2026, and if we can keep it free and fair, we’re going to win. I believe we’ve got a fighting shot in 2028 too. Because the country doesn’t like this.
They might not love Democrats—but they hate this. Most Americans want a government that works for them, and it’s crystal clear this one doesn’t.
It’s a scary time. I keep coming back to something I said yesterday: I know that feeling of apathy. That tight-chested rage. That feeling of being overwhelmed. They want you to feel that way. Too much news. Too much chaos. It’s by design.
But you’ve got to find your lane and be useful. We all carry different weights—but keep moving. One step at a time. Be helpful where you can. We can’t control the White House. We can’t control Congress. But we can control our response.
We can show up—like at the No Kings Rally on October 18th. We can call our reps—especially Republicans—and demand they extend ACA premium subsidies and end the shutdown. We can organize locally. We can look out for our neighbors.
I saw a video this morning of a woman being dragged from her car during school pickup by ICE. Horrific. But also? A lot of parents in Chicago are stepping up—making sure kids get to school, making sure families aren’t left alone. That’s the work.
This isn’t how a free society is supposed to operate—but it’s how it operates under Trump.
So figure out how you can be useful. Because we need you. Take care of yourself. Stay alert. And God love you.

P.S. Don’t let the bastards grind you down.
No Kings Day is one week from tomorrow. Organizers are hoping for a turnout of 11-12 million people, but now it looks like there will be “tens of millions” in the streets — which means a turnout of at least 20 million! To borrow a quote from James Joyce, “Here Comes Everybody!”
exhausting, endless rounds of attacks on those who try to protect our country from it's authoritarian government. But despair is the destroyer and we must not fall into despair or they have already one
