There’s a massive exodus of staff at every level of this administration. According to Politico this weekend, they’re leaving because they know their best days are behind them. They know the midterms are going to be a bloodbath for Republicans. They know that once Democrats take the House — and hopefully the Senate — the investigations start in earnest. And they know the last two years of a Donald Trump who’s further out of touch with reality and less popular by the minute is going to be a brutal place to work.
It would be easy for me to spike the football here. I feel it in my bones. I’ve been right a lot more than I’ve been wrong about how this second term was going to go.
But there’s something more important than “I told you so,” and it’s a message I need every Republican in Washington — and every staffer sprinting for the exits — to hear clearly:
Accountability is still coming for you.
These people worked hand in hand with Donald Trump and his billionaire buddies to wreck the global economy, make your life worse, launch an illegal war, and steal billions of dollars from the American people. And now they think they can walk out the door, grab a corporate job, go back to running campaigns, and nothing will ever happen to them.
Screw that.
From Donald Trump and his family on down to people you’ve never heard of, this administration is full of people who broke and manipulated the law for their own personal and financial gain. The reckoning has to come. And Democrats need to understand that accountability isn’t a distraction from winning the next two elections — it’s how you win them. It’s how you set this country back on a path toward a government that works for us instead of a handful of corrupt billionaires and corporate lobbyists.
Which brings me to the other big story of the weekend: Minority Leader Jeffries took a meeting with Jared Kushner.
A lot of people are furious he took the meeting at all. I’m not one of them. I’ve always believed you meet with anybody. If Donald Trump called me tomorrow and said, “Mike, come to the White House,” I’d be on the next flight to DC — and I’d give him the same piece of my mind you’d get from me over a beer at the bar about the jackass in the Oval Office.
So my question isn’t why Hakeem took the meeting. My question is what was discussed in it. Because meeting with these people is one thing. Helping them escape accountability is something else entirely.
If there was any conversation — any deal, any wink, any handshake — about softening the accountability that’s coming for Jared Kushner, for the crimes I believe he’s committed and the money I believe he and his father-in-law and their family have stolen from the American people, that’s a problem. If a deal was made to shield anyone inside the Trump crime family, I want to know about it, and we need to have that conversation out loud.
I have no reason to believe Hakeem would or did that. I’m just giving you my perspective — and making clear what the standard has to be.
They’re betting that eventually we’ll stop paying attention. That’s exactly why independent media like Endless Urgency matters. Every single person in Washington needs to understand: the level of criminality and blatant corruption we are living through right now is unprecedented in modern American history. This is the kind of stuff that would make past corrupt administrations blush. Richard Nixon could not fathom it. The Grant or Harding administrations could not fathom it.
And it doesn’t go away just because they leave office. It doesn't disappear because the news cycle moves on. I don’t care how many pardons they hand out. I don’t care where they hide the money. We should cast the widest possible net and claw back as much of our money and our democracy as humanly possible.
Kushner is the face of so much of this — especially the manipulation of America’s foreign policy apparatus for his own financial gain. The guy is literally building, alongside his wife, a new Epstein island, which has kicked off a massive international crisis. And they don’t want to talk about it.
I’m tying these two stories together because we are through the looking glass. Trump’s administration has already failed. All the bravado about the “golden age,” all the confident talk from Republicans about the midterms — it’s play-acting. They have to get to the finish line too. And now the people around Trump are starting to think about what happens when this is over.
I’ve worked plenty of elections where I knew my candidate was going to lose, and I’m very good at coping when I need to. That’s what Republicans are doing right now. It’s cope.
And these rats fleeing the ship are doing it in the desperate hope that if they leave now, they’ll be forgotten. That time will do them the favor of making everyone forget what they did and who they chose to serve when they had power.
But we will remember you. We will remember your character. We will remember the lies you told. We will remember what you did to weaken this nation abroad, to wreck the economy, to hurt working people who were already struggling, and to steal from people like you and me.
I told you the other day about my TV hit with Tricia McLaughlin, the former spokesperson for Trump’s Department of Homeland Security. I remembered the lies she told, and when I called her out on them, she was flabbergasted. Because these people are used to this being pro wrestling. A daytime soap opera. You can say anything, do anything, hurt anyone — and then everyone moves on to the next episode. They’re counting on our attention spans being shorter than our memories.
We can’t move on. If we don’t remember, all of these people go quietly into the night for a little while, and then they come roaring back the next time there’s a Republican administration — to steal more money, hurt more people, break more laws, shatter more norms.
If we go back to sleep, it’ll be no different than the Wall Street financial crisis. No different than the January 6th insurrectionists. No different than every other time we let people who committed heinous crimes walk right back into polite society like nothing happened.
Not this time. They’re counting on us forgetting. Don’t give them that. Eyes on the ball folks.

Trump and his family must held accountable for the US constitution and the rule of law to mean a damn thing for the rest of us otherwise expect anarchy and civil riots come November if he still keeps the majority in both houses of US congress!!!
