We know he’s a malignant narcissist but the piece that often gets overlooked is that’s he’s very much a sadist. So when people implore him to think of the people of this nation who are hurting, I shudder. Please don’t remind him we are here. He will only give the thumbscrews another twist!

Betsy Groth's avatar

He is not the only one who gets pleasure out of people’s pain. Hegseth springs to mind.

Susan Ferry's avatar

I hadn’t thought of him. Great callout!

Kathy Hughes's avatar

The sadism is part of his sociopathy.

Beautifully and truthfully written, Mikr. Thank you. I hope your message gets passed around to the right people -- and the wrong people who follow this idiot.

Betsy Groth's avatar

They lie about the number of our soldiers killed.

No surprise there, but it is still egregious.

Supporters of this psychopath are traitors. That would mean the entire Republican Party.

Unprecedented feels limp and empty these days. Malevolent, revengeful, duplicitous, hollow, self-serving, disingenuous...

Or just plain crooked.

Whatever leaves a slimy, all over, rancid taste in your consciousness.

Ok—I was not going to pay for a subscription because I’m watching every cent as being a wife of a farmer in Ohio . I pay all the bills, and have some I can’t pay yet. (Hugh exorbitant bills 😤) but this~~~attacking free press is why I’m being a paid subscriber. I really appreciate you Mike and know you do read comments, as you’ve “liked” a couple of mine. So very thankful to all of you on Substack and can’t be forbidden by the worst president EVER for reporting the truth.

Keep up the good work 👍🏼

Hi!! Thank you. I do read almost all of them. Just don’t have time or energy always to respond.

I'm betting there's many more and many more injured

Linda Harris's avatar

They started out saying only 427 from the four branches were wounded then a few weeks ago they said it was actually just over 700 and this week the number is over 800. I agree with you that it is probably much higher. They just don't care. They just do not want to report the number b/c Americans are already against trump's war.

Veterans of undeclared wars , are they veterans? And,I also wonder if any benefits are available to them in their later years? This is a dark time for our democracy.

Linda Harris's avatar

the trump regime has been gutting veteran's benefits since he took office. The US uses the service people up and then they throw them away. It is heartbreaking.

It's definitely not a coincidence that Trump banned the media the same time an article came out in the Washington Post. It's a disgrace that military members are trying to get benefits from the government for their loved ones passing away and because the government won't call it a war, they can't get the benefits. No family should have to go through that. My thoughts abd prayers are with those families. I hope you get to take some time and be with your family Mike.

Betsy Groth's avatar

And we can then honor them.

I want to thank you for all your work on our behalf. Sometimes I wonder if our democracy is already lost. Then I listen to you and people like you who are speaking out and it gives me hope

Didn't CNN also expose the destruction of military bases in the Gulf? and beyond. The photos sent in by service members showing for the first time the blown-out buildings and broken planes and vehicles?

That, IMO, is why CNN got the emperor's boot.

Americans can and will say "well, they volunteered!" about the 22-23-24-44 killed and the hundreds injured (some of them severely disabled).

But the American taxpayer spent 20 years building those bases. And the Pentagon--which has never ever passed an audit and fights like hell against ever being audited--wants another uncontrolled $1.5 TRILLION (before all that infrastructure and hardware was destroyed).

What the hell.

One positive point for me: Lil Mikey Johnson had to tell Republicans to run for the hills and the hollers because Whiskey Pete was so widely detested (before these 2 reports!!!) that he will be impeached in a New York minute.

We are in for some wild times. No one in this administration is capable of steadying the ship of state. All Republicans can do is tear down, destroy.

I have never in my life felt like the press was a group of fucking imbecilic deadbeats until project 2025 was published and you are actually sickened or surprised or unable to report anything with any notion that every single fucking thing was laid out over decades and you pretend this "next conservative president" is the source.

What's your point, minus the swearing and whatever?

Look I've been saying this since we first attacked. I propose that if every person in America that knew a person that died in this Iran war were to go to a website that someone could create. They have to put in the person's full name their birth date the town that they lived in a picture of them if they can that way we can discount duplicate you know 25 people know one person it's not 25 people dead is one person dead. But if they all did this we've known exactly how many people died

Trump has started another endless war with the media.

Betsy Groth's avatar

It would actually be great if all media would boycott the press office. They are just listening to lies. Deprive trump of an audience. He will go batshit. Let their outlets find another beat for them for now.

Paul Wilson's avatar

Convene the press conferences outside the gates. Let the president and his stooges come to you if they want to spread their lies. If they don’t come out, appoint a moderator and have a “town hall”. Ask your questions, share your answers if you have the facts. At the conclusion, report what you believe are any facts revealed and ensure your audiences understand what was not revealed. Repeat daily. If the administration caves, resume your normal attendance and reporting but continue your out side the gate discussions, recapping your unanswered questions, sharing any knowledge regarding those raised in questions and any roll forwards from the previous days.

I believe your audiences would relish something like this. It would add to the information you provide, possibly reducing the volume of miss information we, the public, currently receive from numerous sources.

No doubt you, in the news media, can devise a more elegant and efficient version of this idea that improves the flow of accurate information while highlighting the lies and stonewalling tactics currently dominating messages emanating from this administration.

Truth is the is lying about numbers killed and wounded, and major damage done to our bases in the Middle East. Lying for months… lying that it is a war, lying to protect themselves. Republicans need to stop enabling this grotesque USA president. And Democrats need the guts to stand up to Netanyahu’s lies as well.

Nancy Andrzejczak's avatar

You hit the nail on the head. I have thinking about those military families. Do they know? Have they been lied to? What if that was my son-in-law or my grandson? Instead of receiving respect, they are used as political pawns.

Jazziebelle's avatar

Uh, yes they are, yes he is. When have any of that bunch of Nazis not lied—about anything?

Leigh Brumberg's avatar

Heartfelt commentary re: casualty misstatements. I may have overlooked it, but not only is Trump blocking access to the White House press room, CNN, MS NOW, and Politico have been barred from the White House grounds. In case anyone is wondering, we're in a dictatorship.

Pam Waterworth's avatar

How despicable is this - to lie to the parents of wounded and dead soldiers so you can avoid calling a war you started a war? Of course it doesn't help that the house members do not get involved to sort this out. A bunch of spineless wonders. There's another word I could use in this last sentence!

Penelope Smith's avatar

If it isnt declared an official war I think it means the govt doesn't have to pay widows.
