Actually, Mitch McConnell was very competent for a very long time. He just wasn’t using his competence in service to the voters who kept electing him. Instead, he was using it in service of the Republican Party—and look where that has gotten us. He has been in obviously declining health for the past couple of years, but he was still pretty sharp mentally, as far as I could tell, until about 6 months ago.
100% Mike. McConnell with that frozen smile on his face looks like the lights are on but nobody's home, this is elder abuse in my opinion and his staff needs to be investigated for all the covering up they've done just to get their pay cheques. It's vile and despicable.
I saw that he was going to vote with the Democrats until a Republican explained how he needed to vote. That is not how government is supposed to work. Not only are his constituents not being represented fairly, the rest of us are stuck with a reality that we have no ability to change. McConnell has done more damage to this country in his career than most in his lifetime. We are all worse off for his many years of “service” to the Nation.
OMG the video of him saying “No” and then being corrected by the guy next to him, telling him to say “Yes”. That should be against the law. McConnell didn’t even know what he was voting on. Did he even know where he was? The Democrats say nothing. Why? As Waj would say, It’s a club and we’re not in it. They get elected to serve us but they are serving themselves.

Congress will protect Congress. Democrats are definitely a better choice at this time. But we will need to elect people that want to serve the people and not their bank accounts.

Just because they wheeled him out to sign the Farm Bill (with great assistance, it appears) does not mean he is on that 6 month clock. I am no fan of McConnell, but I am also opposed to this type of performative elder abuse.
I wonder who really “voted” today. Who made the call? Who set up the assistance for him to push his voting button? I’m calling my senators to ask them to move to remove McConnell.

I would imagine telling him what he was to do. When it came to him, I could not hear what he said but he must have made a mistake or something b/c they called his name again. He looked at the person who had been whispering to him and then did a thumbs up. Not that I want the farmers to be out of aid but come on.
Same thing happened with Dianne Feinstein. Nancy Pelosi's daughter, Christina was Feinstein's "minder" during her last days in the Senate. From the video, in spite of his frozen, deer-in-the-headlights smile, McConnell looks even less with it than Feinstein in her final days.
That you mentioned Tom Kean (age 58) proves this isn't about "gerontocracy" (Fetterman at 57 is another prime exhibit: are we now saying "Don't elect anyone over 50" in a time when people routinely live longer, healthier lives?) It's about fitness at any age, and what should happen when someone isn't able to do their job even if it was, let's say, Congressman Maxwell Frost, who is 29. (He seems healthy.) Unless you are stumping for Bernie Sanders to also be ejected from Congress (he's the same age as Mitch—oh wait—he's 6 months OLDER!), it's clear this isn't really about age at all.
You realize who is 92 years old, he'll be 93 in about a month? Chuck Grassley, who's running for re-election in 2028, he just told Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) "you think you're special?" today and to "shut up about Patel" pushing back with Booker when he was up questioning Patel.

I didn’t get to see it on the evening news since they all covered it up and I did not know he was going to show up.
