Very well stated. Thank you for laying out the fight we need to win. I am tired of “status quo” Democrats!

When this 💩show is over. There needs to be justice for the Constitution. All involved in the current regime, need to be investigated. And if found to have committed crimes against the republic. Need to be held accountable in a court of law.

And don’t take forever doing it no dilly dallying work with Urgency. And on day one we have to have all of our amendments to the constitution lined up and ready to go. Be prepared from the first day forward; we can not go back to how things were has to be stronger and better so shit like this can’t happen again . How do we fix the foreign policy issues and realign with our allies; a lot of work to do . We need DOERS not lackluster behavior .

Blue State attorneys general had studied and prepared responses ready to be filed against Project 2025 actions as soon as Trump was inaugurated (my state WA had been prepping from the day Project 2025was published). I am sure they are prepping for the upcoming election and it’s aftermath.

I completely agree with your analysis. My biggest worry is that Dems don't know how to fight, don't know when to hold people accountable, and give up too easily as if being nice and fair is more important than holding democracy. It is time for all of us to DEMAND more of our representatives. Without prosecutions and a change in SCOTUS, we will be right back here in minutes. We've learned the American people are so prone to believe propaganda that we must to something to reverse the entire Faux news empire and require truth in reporting, get rid of all dark money in politics and end all gerrymandering!

Yes- we must do those three things first!

Put the Fairness Doctrine back in place.

Two Words - Nuremberg Trials. Prosecute every last one of one of those motherfucking goblins Nazi-style.

I notice Pretti being mentioned universally, but not Good. The synergy of the murders is THE driver that has gotten us to this inflection point. Not one murder nor the other. I am disappointed by any pundit not conjoining the two murders. Perhaps consider "Good/Pretti" as the most accurate descriptor, but do better than mentioning just one ...

I mention them both all the time, just didn’t here

Absolutely all spot on Mike.

Very well described.

Absolutely! Democrats need to stop "playing by the rules" when Republicans don't even care about the rules and are playing a completely different game! All this nostalgia about getting the country back on track needs to be replaced by a warrior mentality where Democrats bulldoze the current honor system and implement real iron clad laws to prevent administrations like what we're currently seeing to ever take power again! If we are truly going to save our democracy then the gloves need to come off!!

I 100% agree with this analysis, but I truly fear there are not enough Dems with the spine and guts you're talking about. Fingers crossed there are more strategists like yourself who will help them pull themselves together. Thanks for fighting the good fight!

Not enough… yet

The crop of Dems we’re electing in 2026 understand the fight ahead a lot better than any other generation I’ve seen

To fulfill this idea of a courageous Democrat House and Senate, and esp Senate, Schumer must go. How is that accomplished?

mary thiel's avatar

According to Bernie Sanders, who couldn’t name who he thought should be the new Speaker, no one in the senate wants the job due to its difficulty. And Schumer got more legislation through under Biden than most leaders of the Senate ever had.

He’s too old (and I’m a “senior”) and attached to Israel’s interests.

Democrats need to pass and strongly enforce a law which says only a human being may be a US citizen. After about three years of complete enforcement we can go back to being a built back better version of Joe Biden's America.

Excellent essay, great perspective, thank you, Mike!

We’ve gone from relying on 10% of our voters coming out to win all the elections to actually showing up to vote to making calls and influencing governance. We were complacent because we were the most numerous. We knew we could probably skip voting if it was raining because enough of us were Democrats. That’s still true but the system is increasingly rigged. I think we are waking up…….. now we have to be brave and vote in person, even if there’s a big bad dude who’s holding a gun standing over us (martial law). But I have faith in us! We’ve grown so much so fast!

Diana E's avatar

Those threats may backfire, like poking a sleeping bear. When they are stupid enough to anger gun rights organizations you know they have started jumping the shark.

"Every single Senate Democrat — including John Fetterman and seven Republican senators — said no."

Thanks for this commentary, Mike, but your math is off. EIGHT Republicans voted with all Democrats and independents, not seven.

Yet immediately after you wrote this, the Dems caved again.
