I have diehard MAGA cousins in PA and they have said time and time again they wish Fetterman would move to the Republican party - they admire him more than the actual Republican, who they view as a "RINO." To them, it's all about protecting Israel. My cousins are Evangelical nutbags who claim Israel must be protected even over the United States to ensure Jesus beams back down. I joked "from planet Vulcan." They didn't appreciate that joke. Sadly there are millions in this country who believe this lunacy.
As a fellow Pennsylvania Democrat, I too am deeply disappointed with John Fetterman. While he's certainly been better than Dr. Oz would have been, he's fallen under the spell of the Fox crowd and that is sad.
Not long ago, a deep fake video "of Abdu'l al-Sayed saying John Fetterman looks like an ogre", was broadcast on MSN. Al-Sayed said no such thing, though whether he ever THOUGHT it is an open question. I personally look forward to Conor Lamb coming back for a re-match in 2028. A Shapiro vs. McCormick contest, two years afterward, would be the icing on the cake.
In Canada, there is a saying that applies to the actions of politicians who sail against the wind of their own party's policy positions: crossing the floor, where these politicians officially join the other party. Although it is legal, it infuriates the voters who supported them, and they often go on to lose elections they changed their party allegiance to run in because their voters view them as traitors to the democratic process.
Absolutely Not Fetterman. He’s weak and a burden. He doesn’t advocate for us. He advocates for Trump. He wrong for our Democracy and our Democratic Party.
I'm glad to see someone bringing out some important points about Fetterman. Only one I disagree with: the likelihood of him switching parties. While you're not quite right about how often he votes the progressive line — it's more like 70% now (He's been steadily falling, fell below Jeanne Shaheen as the Senate's most conservative Democrat months ago) — it's still way too high for him to have any place in the Republican caucus. He is ranked about 50 points more progressive than Susie Concern, the most "liberal" Republican. His voting record is closer to Elizabeth Warren's, the most progressive Democrat in the Senate.
As for your concern that he'd flip to vote for a GOP Supreme Court appointee, I'm not so sure. We can't tell if that's one of his little hobby horses, like Israel, or if he'd vote with Democrats as he does 70% of the time because he hasn't yet voted on a Supreme Court appointee.
I think your assessment of why Pennsylvania Republicans rate him so high is accurate: they know nothing about his voting record in the Senate. They just know he annoys Democrats. But they would hate him if he changed parties unless he changed the vast majority of his votes. And he's not going to be their candidate next time he runs (preferably doesn't run!) because all of the stuff they don't agree with would come out and eliminate him in the primary. My guess is he retires and takes a paycheck from some rightwing news outlet.
