I can’t imagine having MAGA at my dinner table on Thanksgiving or any other night. It’s not about politics but basic decency and ability to comprehend reality. At this point that would not be a relationship I’m interested in salvaging.

Each summer, we drove from Michigan to Cape Cod with my daughters. To break up the 2 day trip, we would stop somewhere. Niagara Falls, a hotel with a nice pool, etc. When I drove alone with my younger daughter, we stopped at Seneca Falls one year and she was a very grumpy 12 or 14 year old. we had a great time and it happened to be the one weekend a year when people re-enacted the lives of women in the late 1800s. My daughter really got into it. The next year we stopped at a Shaker village in western MA with a round stone barn. She grumped about going to a place where everyone was celibate - so lame. Again, she had a great time.
I believe all the grumping made her remember our visits.
Finally, when the girls were in 3rd and 5th grades we, visited Amsterdam. In addition to the Anne Frank house, we visited the tulip fields outside of town and between visits to museums, we visited a diamond house where they were able to try on all the jewelry they wanted. There was also a walk through the red light district by accident because it was the shortest route between 2 places. I had to explain prostitution to my 8 and 11 year olds. They remember that too.
Lessons delivered by family- the best. Maybe equally as or more effective than, as an educator, trying to help young people - students- understand historical experiences and perspectives. Missing those days, as a parent. Can't do it as a grandparent (kids live elsewhere and their influences are unknown), and we persist, do what we can in our communities. Keep up the great efforts, all❤️.
Re: Miller, Dershowitz- have they no conscience? With little effort, they could learn about and acknowledge the murder of their (and my) people using the rhetoric and actions they and others continue to spew. It is a sad and beautiful world...
Seattle. Having people with a different political views at the table teaches everyone how to act properly together. Unfortunately, today emotional maturity has been lost. Reason and logic does not cut it when the other side is kabuki theater. Time for liberals go kabuki theater because our myths and stories are boring.
Saw Rental Family today, all in Japan. Everyone should totally see this movie, it was BEAUTIFUL. And if you're into Japan, there are lots of visions. Super good.
Thank you, Mike and Katie. I'm enjoying and appreciating the change from "mainstream media" and the gain of honesty and real conversation. Believe it or not things started to change many years ago when I was a college journalism major (and I'm now just over 70). The change in newspapers was first, shortly followed by television. Luckily for me, CSULB's department had connections and I was lucky to meet Walter Cronkite, who warned us of coming changes, as well as people from NBC, ABC, etc. who accurately predicted the change from news to entertainment.
