In case you thought Donald Trump and the Republicans were going to learn something from Tuesday’s election, I’ve got news for you: they aren’t. Not even a little bit. They are going to double down on all the same stupid, destructive, corrupt, depraved shit they’ve been doing for the last two years.
We got the clearest sign of that yet when Trump kicked Susie Wiles to the curb and made Stephen Miller his new chief of staff. That is not the move of a man who heard the voters. That is the move of a man who heard them loud and clear and decided to give them the middle finger. Trump isn’t course correcting. He isn’t going to work with Democrats to get anything done. He’s digging in.
And it’s a stark reminder that even though we just had an incredible night on Tuesday, one we should be damn proud of, this fight is far from over.
Let’s be clear about who Stephen Miller is. He is one of the most disgustingly racist, vile human beings in Donald Trump’s orbit. He is the architect of Trump’s immigration agenda. He is as corrupt as the rest of them. He regularly goes on television and calls people like me domestic terrorists. He is the embodiment of the evil at the core of this administration.
And now he’s running the whole show.
So we have to double and triple down on our work, too.
I know a lot of people want to spend this week on Democratic infighting. This type of candidate did great here. That type of candidate did great there. I get it. Everybody wants to make their point. Put it aside. They are going to do another version of what they did in Minneapolis and Chicago, terrorizing immigrant communities. They’re going to steal billions and billions more dollars. They’re going to try to hurt people. There will be more war, more violence, more depravity. And we cannot sit back and let it happen.
The Republican Party has used every minute of its time in power to do the most horrendous things it can think of. They’ve done nothing to help the American people. Meanwhile, the media is wringing its hands about how Democrats need to be careful not to overreach. Ooh, don’t lean too hard into the investigations. Ooh, be careful.
Screw that.

The American people told us on Tuesday exactly what they want. They will reward us for fighting. For fighting fascism. For fighting the destruction of the global economy. For fighting illegal wars. For fighting a class of people who are stealing from the American taxpayer and abusing their power to pad their own net worth. They will reward us for that. They just did.
And the Republicans still don’t get it. I was on Newsmax this morning, sitting in the waiting room before my segment, listening to them try to explain what happened. Every single one of them had some nonsense excuse. Not one of them blamed Donald Trump’s leadership. Not one of them acknowledged the obvious: the material conditions of people’s lives are dramatically worse than they were two years ago. That’s why they lost. Full stop.
They don’t understand why they won in 2024. They don’t understand why they lost in 2026. And they have no idea how to win in 2028.
We do. I want a big, messy, vibrant Democratic primary, full of candidates out there making the case for our ideas with the wind at our backs and a level of confidence we haven’t seen from this party in a long time. The Republicans will spend the next two years groveling for Donald Trump’s endorsement. Let them.
The knock on Democrats, even now, is that we seem well-meaning, people like a lot of our ideas, but they don’t believe we can get anything done. They don’t believe that when the chips are down, we’ll actually fight for them.
So let’s show them. Use the power we have to pass single-issue bills that make people’s lives better. If Trump vetoes them, make him own it. If Senate Republicans block them, make them own it. Then go back to the American people and ask for more power, because we can show them exactly how government can materially improve their lives. It doesn’t have to be a machine that only serves rich and powerful assholes like Elon Musk. We can build something better.
I wish none of this were happening. I wish Trump had learned his lesson. I wish he’d picked anyone other than Stephen Miller. I wish he’d course correct on the war, the tariffs, the corruption, all of it. But he won’t. He’s too arrogant.
Stephen Miller is betting that we’ll get distracted, that we’ll get tired, that we’ll turn on each other and let them do whatever they want. Let’s prove him wrong.
Let’s take this for the opportunity it is. Let’s prove government can be a force for good. Let’s keep building a community of people who love each other and who stand with the most vulnerable people in this country, the ones under attack right now.
And let’s do the fucking work, together.
