No, there are not "reasonable" Republicancers. The very fact that they see themselves as positioned under the same political umbrella that supports the kind of governance that the Republicancers are currently imposing on us is proof of that. Eisenhower's presidency ended on January 20, 1961. That was the end of the "reasonable" Republican. (For reference, read Eisenhower's "Chance for Peace" speech, also known as the "Cross of Iron" speech. It's a great read and supports my belief that he was the last "reasonable" Republican.) But Eisenhower's VP was Nixon, whose first VP was Spiro Agnew who resigned in disgrace the year before Nixon resigned in disgrace. After Ford's brief term followed by Carter, Reagan became the leader of the Republicancer party, and the U.S. has never really recovered due to the rabid Republicancers as well as your mythical "reasonable" Republicancers.

Fabulous conversation with candidate Brian Bengs, SD. I think it will take the combined forces of progressive Democrats and Independents to resurrect the Democratic Party. There is too much machinery against any adaptation by the old Democratic establishment, and too much urgency, to settle for an "evolution" by right-thinking people changing from within. Chuck Schumer is still at the helm, right? My D-Senators voted R on any number of terrible bills and appointees.

There are many ways to improve the representativeness of our governance-- multi-member districting, multiple parties--but the shortest route in this emergency is for Independents to win. (Before you blast me: I am walking the slow route. I am co-chair of my precinct with my local Democratic Committee. There are the true believers, and they are such good people, and there are not enough of them.)

On another but related issue: We talk like Trump and the revolutionary-right is the only life-or-death crisis we face. The laws of physics do not care what we 'think.' We are talking and acting like our natural world isn't melting down. We humans are inseparably dependent on the natural world. And the Democratic Party under the establishment's thumb has wasted time on this too, as if we have time.... IMO, within 10 years, there will be massive destruction of our built environment, crop failures, massive deaths, and deeply unpleasant conditions for everyone left alive.

The Democratic Party lost against Trump. It will take time to clear out the old mentality. And we don't actually have the luxury of time.

Yay for Independents.

PS: Mike, how about getting Katherine Hayhoe in to talk?Climate scientist in TX, excellent speaker, concise, upbeat, solutions-oriented.

Trump-Zelensky Meet: Ukrainian President Arrives In All-Black Pant Suit To Oval Office

Washington DC August 18, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s attire during his latest White House visit has drawn significant attention marking a notable shift from the controversy that erupted during his February Oval Office meeting with US President Donald Trump. Opting for a sleek all black pants suit ensemble Zelenskyy’s wardrobe choice for Monday’s high stakes discussions with Trump and European leaders stood in stark contrast to the military style attire that sparked criticism earlier this year.
