Hey folks,

It’s Election Day, and Jack Cocchiarella and I are nauseously optimistic.

New reporting suggests Donald Trump is privately preparing for the possibility of Democrats taking back both chambers of Congress. Meanwhile, Pete Hegseth could be on his way out, J.D. Vance is getting absolutely roasted by Zohran Mamdani, and we’re talking about what Democrats need to do if voters hand them real power.

There’s a lot of nervous energy in this one. But there’s also something we haven’t felt in a while: hope.

  • [00:07:17] I share a little Election Day optimism from Chicago, where polling places are opening on time, voters are lining up, and my son and I are delivering donuts to poll workers. Democracy is a team sport, folks.

  • [00:14:43] CNN reports that Trump has privately discussed the worst-case midterm scenario: Democrats winning both the House and Senate. We break down what that could mean for investigations, accountability, and the rest of his presidency.

  • [00:18:13] Pete Hegseth could become Trump’s post-election fall guy. Jack and I get into why Democrats shouldn’t stop at a resignation, and why congressional oversight needs to extend to the people running this administration.

  • [00:23:02] Zohran Mamdani’s viral response to J.D. Vance leads to a bigger conversation about what makes a Democrat effective: delivering basic services, lowering costs, communicating like a normal human being, and actually listening to voters.

  • [00:30:24] Things get personal as Jack and I reflect on the friendship we’ve built, the independent media community you’ve helped create, and my decision to wind down my consulting firm so I can focus on this work full-time.

This episode is about the 2026 midterms, Trump’s political vulnerability, Pete Hegseth, J.D. Vance, Zohran Mamdani, and the future of the Democratic Party. But it’s also about what happens after the votes are counted.

I don’t want Democrats to win and then go right back to business as usual. I want investigations. I want real legislation. I want leaders who fight corruption, make people’s lives better, and understand that winning power means nothing if you don’t use it.

And I want to keep building independent media that holds everyone accountable, including our own side.

Jack and I don’t always agree on the politics, but we agree on that. And after everything we’ve been through together, I’m incredibly grateful that you all are part of this.

If you believe Election Day should be the beginning of real change, not the end of the fight, help us build the independent media we need for whatever comes next.
