Hey folks,
I was on TV talking about the controversy surrounding the funeral of Reverend Jesse Jackson and the criticism that some of the remarks from former presidents were too political for the moment. It’s a debate we’ve seen again and again in recent years, and honestly, it says a lot about the moment we’re living through.
My view is pretty simple: everything in America feels political right now. Whether it’s a memorial service, a sporting event, or even a funeral, we seem incapable of pausing long enough to just be human beings with each other. And that’s exhausting.
Look, this isn’t a problem unique to one party or one moment. We’ve seen examples across the political spectrum where solemn occasions turn into partisan fights. The truth is, if we want to lower the temperature in this country, we’re all going to have to be willing to take a step back sometimes.
Not everything has to be a political battlefield.
