Hey folks,
I jumped into a pretty heated debate on TV about a terror attack, protests outside the New York mayor’s residence, and the political firestorm that followed. As often happens in these moments, the conversation quickly shifted from the facts of the case to a lot of partisan point-scoring about who said what and which words were used.
My view is straightforward: terrorism should always be condemned, full stop. The people responsible for violence should be prosecuted, and there shouldn’t be any ambiguity about that. But what frustrated me about the conversation was how quickly it turned into a broader political circus instead of focusing on the real issues people are dealing with every day.
While cable news panels argue over language and social media posts, Americans are worrying about the cost of living, oil prices, and whether they can afford their mortgage next month. Those are the conversations we should be having more often—and the problems leaders should actually be solving.
